The Effect Of World Wide Web To The Society

Categories: , , ,

The World Wide Web was first invented by Sir Tim Burners Lee. Basically this is the site that helps us when we want to get information in the computers or wanted to learn things on the internet. Its short forms are WWW. By the use of these three words you can type the site you want to visit and it takes you through. And when we talk of effects here they can be good or bad.

The main aim of doing this study is to find out if the WWW has any negative infects to the society or just positive. Because as far as the Web is concern it was invented to help the society and not cause any harm to it. But like any other thing it has got to have its negativity in one way or the other.

There are positive effects of the Web which are as follows:

Easy access to any information. Before the web was invented people just used to read books, journals and peoples diaries. And these things were not so much easy to get. And they were limited in number. But once the Web was introduced getting information are become so much easy, Information for Human being has just become one click away. Examples of these sites are like Wikipedia, Google and so many other search engines.

Learning, In places like South Korea learning is done by the Internet. They learn through different sites that are in the Web and create other sites to help their kids learn. This can be in governments, primary or even higher education. The Korean government has promoted e learning on all fonts of education as part of long life learning and commercialization philosophy. Example in 2006 over half of 4 year colleges and universities were offering e learning courses.

Social network sites like Facebook are increasingly important environments for expressing and maintaining interpersonal connection. These kind pf sites help especially the youth in creating friendship channels in different parts of the world and hence making communication for them easy and fun.

Apart from the positive effects of the WWW there are negative effects of it, which are as follows:

Most of the youth nowadays spend most of their times on the internet these days. Either facebook, my space, listening to music, playing games or even watching movies. With this then in has broken the relationships of families all over the world. Parents don’t get to spend time with their children and hence don’t get to know how they are getting along with life and generally how they are doing. Example in South Korea 62% 3 - 5 years children spend more than 8 hours per week in the internet.

This shifts people from the real world. Example people don’t get the time to read a book, just go for a walk, have meaningful conversations unless its via the internet. This has given people a new way of thinking especially the youth. Example according to the bbc.co.uk/virtual revolution a kid says that without the internet then life would be boring.

In South Korea 62% of the kids that use the web have been diagnose with medical problems. 80% are on medication while 20% are already admitted.
So this shows how the internet can affect our health, especially when it is overdone.

The web can also get you addicted. And when one is addicted to it means that he or she will have to nothing else but jut se in the internet all the time. And this is a very bad situation for any one. The symptoms of an addict are as follows, being unstable, not satisfied, of which this will lead to one loosing friends and the other is no relation with the family.

To conclude it can be said that the Web ha done much for the society as much as bad. And that in North Korea the web is much used compared to any other part of the world. An as much we reduce the use of the Web then the better it will be. Because as it is said too much of anything is harmful.

Hi Guys
well discussed and to-the-point article. the way you discussed the mental affects and effects of south Korean people who are much prone to internet was good.
but what do you think about the knowledge processing over the internet? you have mentioned that knowledge processing could be easily done through the internet. but what you think of 'complete' knowledge processing? is it not bits and pieces of information we gather through internet when compared to books or other credible sources?

thank you for the comment e-avatar. well about the complete knowledge processing should be completed through both the books and the internet or any other sources. and most of the time the information found in the internets is from written information like books, journals, diaries newspapers just to mention a few.
and all we ment here is that most of the information we find in the internet is also in books or ant other written material.
